BDO Foundation Reaches 200th RHU Milestone, Bringing Primary Health Care Closer to More Filipinos

BDO Foundation continues to strengthen its commitment to making primary health care more accessible to Filipinos. As such, they have achieved a major milestone with the turnover of its 200th rehabilitated Rural Health Unit (RHU). The foundation recently inaugurated the newly renovated RHU of San Jose in Camarines Sur. And this milestone marks a significant step in its nationwide advocacy.

For BDO Foundation president Mario Deriquito, this milestone serves as motivation to further expand their reach.

“With every RHU we turn over, we think about the thousands of Filipinos who will benefit from the facility. Through this initiative, we hope to empower health workers to serve their patients better and help more people gain access to essential health services.”

The San Jose RHU now serves over 45,000 residents across 29 barangays. The one-story facility was transformed with improved interiors and exteriors. It also now has enhanced accessibility for persons with disabilities and senior citizens. Additionally, it now has dedicated spaces for breastfeeding mothers and elderly patients. All these ensure a more comfortable and inclusive health care experience.

San Jose Municipal Health Officer Dr. Arnel Armea expressed his gratitude, highlighting the impact of the renovation.

“This support empowers our health care personnel to perform their duties with dignity and ensure that our community receives the care they deserve. With this improved facility, mayroon nang space para sa lahat!”

As the first line of defense in promoting community wellness, RHUs provide routine check-ups, immunizations, and preventive health care services. Through partnerships with local government units, BDO branches, and BDO Network Bank, the foundation remains steadfast in its mission. And that is to enhance the country’s primary health care delivery system at the grassroots level.
