Due to several exciting changes (like economic growth, rise in the local population, and the availability of disposable income, among others,) more and more industry players have decided to take their businesses to Cebu. We see a sudden surge of BPO companies, schools, food shops, and a whole lot more. In the retail scene, while big players like Ayala, SM, and Robinsons have confidently secured their spots, several other local players have also been bullish in making their presence felt. Here are 12 of the most exciting developments we all can’t wait to see.
1. Central Block
Location: Cebu IT Park – Between The Walk and the Skyrise buildings
Now currently under construction, the Central Block at the Cebu IT park will feature a hotel tower, a BPO building, and Ayala’s second mall in the city.
2. Il Corso
Location: Citta di Mare, South Road Properties
Adding zest to the already energetic lifestyle scene at the South Road Properties, the Il Corso will feature al fresco restaurants, a central plaza, and an amphitheater with dancing fountains.
3. CityMall Bacalso
Location: Natalio B. Bacalso Ave – Between Elizabeth Mall and South Bus Terminal
CityMall Bacalso is a welcome addition to downtown Cebu’s already bustling shopping scene. With its perfect location and branding, there’s no doubt it’s going to be a huge commercial success.
4. Ciudad Mall
Location: Banilad Road – Behind Cebu IT Park
After being stalled for years, there is hope finally for the Ciudad Mall project. The Ciudad Mall project is a themed mall development which had been stopped several times in the past due to various reasons.
5. Ayala + SM Project
Location: South Road Properties – San Pedro Calungsod Thanksgiving Mass site
This joint project by Ayala and SM is expected to be one of the biggest and most exciting projects in Cebu. It will have an arena, a convention center, and various lifestyle developments.
6. Mandani Bay
Location: North Reclamation Area, Mandaue City
Considered one of the most exciting projects in Mandaue City, this sea-side development is definitely a game-changer. It will have wide pedestrian lanes, high-rise towers, and a unique lifestyle district.
7. Global City Mandaue
Location: Mandaue City – Below the second bridge / The current fish ponds
Global City Mandaue is an exciting development in Mandaue City nobody saw coming. The development will have a port complex, a commercial center, an entertainment complex, and a casino.

10. Mactan Leisure City
Location: Lapu-Lapu City, Mactan – Northern part of Mactan Island
The Mactan Leisure City is a proposed billion dollar casino project by US-based RiskWise Group and Macau Resources Group. According to reports, it will have three seven-star hotels and a high-end mall.
11. Island Central Mactan
Location: Mez 1, Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City – Across Mactan Marina Mall
Expected to make Lapu-Lapu an even more vibrant historic city, the Island Central Mall will house various unique brands and at least two BPO companies.
12. Gatewalk Central
Location: Subangdaku, Mandaue City – Former football field | Beside SM Hypermart
Gatewalk Central is a 17.5-hectare property which will feature high-rise buildings, residential complexes, BPO offices and Ayala’s third mall in Cebu.

I agree with LumadCebuano. Although these are very welcome developments, I hope the government will work on street level. I’m talking about easing the traffic in preparation for the massive influx of vehicles going to and coming from these developments. Street level development also means cleaning and beautifying the streets, clearing sidewalk vendors, making sidewalks walkable and safer, etc.
