Pilipinas Kontra Gutom to Distribute Noche Buena Packs in Cebu and Leyte
Pilipinas Kontra Gutom is bringing its Christmastime project to Cebu and Leyte. This Zero Hunger multisectoral task force aims to provide food assistance to Filipinos in need. This year, they will provide food packs to families affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Also, they will be providing food assistance to those who were affected by the recent calamities that hit the country. This holiday season, for the first time ever, the Noche Buena Packs will be given to selected communities in Leyte and Cebu.
Pilipinas Kontra Gutom
Pilipinas Kontra Gutom is a collaborative effort of the Ronald McDonald House of Charities, Jaime Ongpin Foundation, and the Rise Against Hunger Foundation. With its goal of providing food assistance to Filipino families, the group has tapped Cebu’s very own Simply Share Foundation to help hand out the Noche Buena packs in the two areas.
Simply Share Foundation
Simply Share Foundation, Inc. (SSFI) is a non-profit organization recognized by the SEC. SSFI’s main goal is to fight hunger in the most vulnerable communities in the country. In addition, SSFI believes that food security is important to have a better quality of life.
According to founder and president Pamela S. Baricuatro, the team has been working non-stop this year. In fact, since April, they have given out over 350,000 meals in Cebu City and Cebu Province.
Noche Buena Packs Project
Simply Share Foundation will give out around 11,000 packs for Christmas. For this reason, the whole month of December will be very busy for the entire team. In fact, they aim to finish giving out all the packs before Christmas to give the families time to prepare their Noche Buena. Each pack will contain items that can be used to prepare favorites like fruit salad and spaghetti.
In Cebu City, 1,800 food packs will be in 4 different locations. On the other hand, around 8,500 packs will be handed out in around a dozen locations in Cebu province. Then, in Leyte, 500 packs will be given out in Barangay Tubod and Barangay Valencia.
