Visayan Music Awards Presents Top 10 Finalists + Raw & Studio Versions of Top 10 Songs
Lovers of Visayan and Cebuano music are in for an amazing treat as the Sacred Heart School for Boys Batch 1985 Foundation Inc. brings to life the first ever Visayan Music Awards. The Visayan Music Awards is a showcase of the artistry and incredible raw talent of both local songwriters and performers. Endorsed by the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas, the Visayan Music Awards or VizMA also aims to give the spotlight to the amazing men and women who helped promote the Visayan language, culture, and music through their art.
First Listen
Last July July 18, 2019, the Visayan Music Awards held an intimate listening party to give members of the local media as well as bloggers and influencers a taste of what to expect during the Finals Night on July 27. During the event, guests were able to listen to the live rendition of the songs as well as their ‘finished’ studio versions. Here are some scenes from the fun event:
Finals Night
The First Visayan Music Awards Finals Night will be held on July 27, 2019, 7 pm at the Oakridge Pavillion at the Oakridge Business Park in Mandaue City, Cebu. Hosted by the comedienne and celebrity Giselle Sanchez, the awards night will also feature appearances by top international act Karencitta and living musical legend Max Surban. Guests at the awards night can also expect a truly wonderful musical experience as the finalists are set to perform a live rendition of their composition with Cebu’s very own Cebu Philharmonic Orchestra.
First VMA
Even though the Finals Night is still a week away, the organizers of the VMA are already calling the event’s first year a resounding success. The organizers picked the Top 10 songs from more than 500 entries. VizMA Project Chairperson Barney Borja said, “We originally planned to select seven winners but eventually decided to increase the pool to 10 to recognize all the excellent composers who placed so much effort into the competition and best represent Visayan culture and music.”
The Grand Prize winner will be bringing home Php100,000 in cash while the Second and Third Placers will receive Php75,000 and Php50,000, respectively. The seven non-winners will each receive Php10,000. Aside from the cash prize, the finalists will also receive a scholarship from Thames International’s Innovation and Creative Enterprise Program (ICE) worth Php150,000. The program will further enhance the artists’ skills set, knowledge, and competency in the industry to help them prepare for a more successful life after the competition.
