Lite Ferries Scheduled to Launch Brand-New RINA Class Ship LITE FERRY FIVE
Lite Shipping Corporation is set to launch its brand-new world-class ship M/V Lite Ferry Five. Just in time for their 29th anniversary, the launching marks the start of a new chapter in Lite Shipping Corporation’s “Sailing Bigger, Faster, and Better.”
The launching and ceremonial ribbon-cutting, which will be held on November 18, 2019 at the Port of Cebu, will be attended by Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Z. Duterte. Also expected to be present during the event are Chairman of the Committee on Transportation Hon. Edgar Mary S. Sarmiento, and House of Congress and MARINA ADMINISTRATOR VADM Narciso A. Vingson, Jr. Heading the event will be the President/ CEO of Lite Ferries, Lucio E. Lim, Jr. together with COO Fernando A. Inting, VP Operations Jonathan Lim-Imboy, and Commercial Operations head – Jethro Nathaniel Lim-Imboy.
Lite Ferry Five
Lite Ferry Five is a brand-new 75 meters long RO-RO passenger coastwise ship, with a GRT of 2,895 tons. Built in 2019, the China-built Lite Ferry Five was classed in Italy. The ship features wide passageways on its passenger decks and spacious cargo deck that can accommodate up to 540 passenger and 23 10-wheeler trucks. Lite Ferry Five has a maximum speed of 15 knots and a service speed of 13 to 14 knots. MARINA granted the vessel “Pioneering Status Protection” in the route of Oslob, Cebu to Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte under EO 909 and MC 2015-4. In the meantime, however, the vessel will take the Oslob, Cebu to Dapitan City route up until the dredging completion of the Dipolog Port under the supervision of the Dipolog City LGU. With a travel time of only 4 hours, the new vessel is expected to link Northern Mindanao to Cebu Province faster and easier.
In December 2019, Lite Ferries will also be welcoming the second brand-new vessel “M/V LITE FERRY NINE”. The vessel is a 70 meters long coastwise RO-RO ferry, with a GRT of 2,107 tons. It was built in China and classed by the Bureau Veritas of France. It can accommodate up to 400 passengers and 17 10-wheeler trucks. The deployment will be in January 2020. It has a service speed of 12 knots and will be deployed in January 2020 to service the Jagna, Bohol to Cagayan de Oro City route on a pioneering status by MARINA.
Lite Ferries has acquired a total of 7 brand-new ships in the last 5 years, including its flagship vessel M/V Lite Ferry 88. With the addition of its six other vessels which were all below 20 years old upon acquisition, Lite Ferries now operates one of the youngest fleets in the country.
