The Sinulog Governing Board (SGB) Begins Preparations for Sinulog 2020

After the executive order creating the Sinulog Governing Board (SGB) was signed last August 23rd, the board immediately began preparations for the upcoming 2020 Sinulog celebrations. The SGB was created by Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella, who is also its chairman, to organize and oversee the Sinulog festival. The SGB will serve as the regulatory board that will oversee the Sinulog Foundation, Inc. as well as its executive committee. The SGB also has the right to review and approve resolutions, decisions, and actions of the SFI executive committee.

The Cebu City Sinulog Governing Board currently has 24 members. Making up the board are eight appointees of the mayor, five trustees of the SFI, two members of the Cebu City Council, Chief of the CCPO, the Division Superintendent of DepEd Cebu City, Regional Directors of the LTO and the LTFRB, Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO), Commander of the Central Command of the AFP, and the Rector of the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño.

The main goal of the board is to ensure that the installment of the festival is well-coordinated by carrying vital agencies under its wings. One of the very first steps that the board took after it was formed was to identify the areas that needed improvement. The board especially focused its attention on the need to revitalize the image of the Sinulog Festival and make it appealing to its main target markets. The board has also tapped important names in the entertainment industry to ensure that the festival regains its title as the grandest festival in the country.
