Malling (at SM Supermalls) is More Fun in the Philippines

SM Supermalls recently partnered with the Department of Tourism (DOT) for a special project whose aim was to focus on and nurture the ever-expanding trend among tourists: shopping. The campaign “Malling is More Fun in the Philippines” aims to invite both locals and tourists to experience the wonders of shopping in the Philippines. For the month of May, SM malls all over the country took part in various activities designed to introduce to shoppers just how amazing shopping at SM malls can be.

Exciting Activities

SM City Cebu, one of the participating malls in the campaign, prepared a line-up of exciting activities to showcase the best dishes and products of Cebu.

A Food Crawl featuring different Filipino delicacies and organic products was held at the Lower Ground Level of the mall from May 22 to 31. Participating restaurants inside the mall also became part of the campaign by offering great deals and discounts on various specialties and offers.

One of the highlights of the event, however, was the culinary demo which was held last May 25 at the Northwing Atrium. The demonstration highlighted Cebu’s mango-infused dishes.

Flavors of the Island: Culinary Demo

The culinary demonstration, aptly called Flavors of the Island, was headlined by Chef Jay Jonson. Chef Jay is a graduate of the International School for Culinary Arts. With years of experience, Chef Jay is also one of the most sought-after consultants in the industry.

Attended by culinary students, mall-goers, and members of the local media, the culinary demo featured two of Cebu’s most loved dishes: the humba and the puto.

Using yet another Cebu favorite, the Cebu Mango, Chef Jay succeeded in reimagining these two all-time favorites and turning them into two new stunning original masterpieces.

Chef Jay also turned the puto into a turon-inspired snack by frying sticky rice and slices of mango wrapped in lumpia wrapper.
