UCMed Kalusugan Center Brings Free Check-Ups and Cancer Screenings Closer to Cebuanos

Cebuanos can now enjoy free check-ups, consultations, diagnostic tests, and medicines at the newly launched UCMed Kalusugan Center. The facility officially opened its doors on Monday, September 29, 2025.

Kalusugan Center

Accredited by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), the center is part of the Yaman ng Kalusugan Program (YAKAP). The initiative aims to provide members with accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare services.

What sets UCMed apart is that it is the only Level 3 Apex private hospital in Cebu that now offers cancer screenings. This is separate from but aligned with the existing YAKAP program. These include screenings for breast, colon, liver, and lung cancers, which can help detect conditions early and improve treatment outcomes.

Aside from cancer prevention, PhilHealth members and their families can access free consultations. They can also enjoy basic laboratory tests such as CBC, fasting blood sugar, lipid profile, and creatinine, as well as imaging services like X-ray.

“UCMed is proud to be the first private Level 3 Apex Hospital in Cebu to offer cancer screening with PhilHealth,” said Dr. Armando V. Tan, UCMed’s medical director. “Through the Kalusugan Center, we reaffirm our mission of attending to every Filipino’s health with accessible, affordable, and preventive care.”

Located on the ground floor of UCMed, across from the Medical Arts Building and adjacent to the parking building, the Kalusugan Center is easily accessible through the Mantawi Drive side of the complex.

More Public Health Programs Soon

Dr. Tan added that PhilHealth’s YAKAP will be the first of many public health programs UCMed will adopt, including GAMOT, PhilHealth’s outpatient drug benefit package. The hospital also encourages PhilHealth members to register UCMed as their YAKAP provider. They also welcome non-members who wish to sign up.

UCMed continues to uphold its role as an apex hospital under the Universal Health Care framework. They want to focus not only on cure but also on prevention and continuity of care. The opening of the Kalusugan Center strengthens its mission to deliver comprehensive, people-centered healthcare for the Cebuano community.
