Ironman 70.3 Philippines Returns to Cebu this 2019!

Last July 4, 2019, a special gathering of local media practitioners, partners, supporters, and athletes was held at the posh Ocean Pavillion at Shangri-la’s Mactan Resort and Spa. The intimate gathering was held for a very special announcement that made many local triathletes brimming with excitement. According to Ms. Princess Galura, the general manager of Sunrise Events, the world-renowned Ironman 70.3 Philippines, is returning to Cebu once again (on its eighth year) this August 11th at Shangri-la’s Mactan Resort and Spa.

A Fresh Start

While this isn’t the first time that Cebu is hosting the prestigious race, Ms. Galura feels that as the organizers of Ironman 70.3, this year’s race is basically a fresh start for everyone involved. For starters, the Ironman Group has just recently acquired Sunrise Events. Ms. Galura quipped, “It’s a new beginning for all of us!” And with new names governing the key local government units concerned, getting everyone to cooperate was just like starting from square one. Fortunately, all four LGUs have expressed their support for this monumental event.

“We continue to support this event as this is also in line with our thrust, active adventure through sports tourism. Events like this encourage young and young at heart visitors to come here. Hope this continues for a long time,” said Tamano.

A More Exciting Race

According to Ms. Galura, this year’s Ironman 70.3 Philippines will be very exciting. She said that spectators can expect a lot of new participants as well as returning favorites & record-holders and celebrity triathletes.

The organizers also promised that the bike stage of the race will also return to the South Road Properties with the Talisay City Hall serving as the turning point.

Mayor Ahong Chan, for his part, promised that participants will once again feel the warm welcome of locals as school kids and spectators cheer for them along the streets on the day of the race.

Shangri-la’s Mactan Resort and Spa’s General Manager Rene Egle, on the other hand, promised to deliver the signature 5-star Shangri-la service and accommodation to all guests and participants.
